What is required to become a professional cheerleader?
When you think of cheerleaders typically football and basketfall come to mind if you like in the US. These athletes represent the most outstanding and agile of most sports. A no nonsense schedule of physical fitness, dance and gymnastics are what you must dedicate yourself to when persuing a career as a professional cheerleader.
Typically you want to start young focusing on dance, gymnastics and cheerleading, gain as much experience as you possibly can in these fields. Most professionals begin around the age of 2 years old. Professional cheerleading routines consist of techniques from jaz, hip-hop, and modern dance. So master these well before trying to apply. Those that stand out from the crowd of applicants will have these techniques mastered as well as a background in gymnastics. These skills, and the familiarity that come with them, will help you gain the attention of the interviewer and be considered over another applicant with similar skills in dancing.
Prep for the audition with an intense exercise routine. This includes cardio, endurace training, and weight lifting. Attire for the audition should be dance appropriate, accenting your figure without revealing too much. Freedom of movement and flattering to you should be equally important. During the audition perform the routine as instructed, putting your own twists on the structured routines will make you standout in a bad way. Showing that you cannot follow instruction. Don't forget that in professional cheerleading the squad moves together as a unit, and no one should standout.
