How Can You Permanently Remove Hair?
One of the most annoying grooming issues out there is the unwanted body hair. It never fails to grow back rapidly and is almost impossible to permanently remove. Technology has improved over the years and the advances in hair removal are astounding, but they don’t come cheap. Laser hair removal is the most talked-about type today. It is relatively quick and to most people, not painful. The technician uses the laser to shoot short bursts of light at the unwanted hair, as this happens the hair follicle absorbs the heat/light. In time this process destroys the follicle, preventing the hair from growing back. A down side is that it only works on dark hair, since the follicle has to have sufficient pigment to absorb the energy from the laser. Another down side is that this can only be done on fair skinned people, since tanned or dark skin will absorb too much heat and cause burns and scars. It typically takes 6-8 treatments to completely remove hair and each treatment starts around $50 on a small area (chin or upper lip) to $500 per treatment on a larger area (pubic or arm areas).
Electrolysis is another option that is popular. In this treatment the technician inserts a small needle into the hair follicle, overheating the hair follicle or galvanizes it, which one depends on the method. This can become a lengthy process since you have to do it a follicle at a time. This is considered a more painful than laser, especially since they use needles. Most technicians charge by the minute, so for a large area the cost really stacks up. For a 15 minute session starts anywhere from $30-$50, depending on the salon and technician’s skill. Surprisingly longer sessions are more reasonably priced starting at $60/hr.
Before you go any further - If you are considering going to salon for a treatment make sure that your hair is dark enough at the root for laser treatments. Your hair can be dark on the surface, but may not have sufficient pigment at the root to be successful . Be forewarned, these treatments will remove the unwanted hair permanently, but will not stop new hairs from growing.
